After dropping their first two games in Toronto, the White Sox avoided the series sweep before heading back to sweet home Chicago. Ricky’s Boys, who currently lead the Majors in home runs, put the long ball into good use. Matt Davidson hit his fourth homer to put the Sox out to an early 1-0 lead in the second. Then, Yoan Moncada drove in one with a bases loaded single following a challenge. The next batter, Avisail Garcia was plunked to drive in one more, to give the Sox a 3-1 lead.
Carson Fulmer looked very sharp in his first start of the season. After a rocky spring training, the Vanderbilt alum came out with some nasty pitches. He struck out five in five innings of work. He also gave up three earned runs on five hits and walked one. Relievers Aaron Bummer, Danny Farquhar, Nate Jones, and Joakim Soria were lights out, giving up a combined 2 hits in their four shutout innings.
Tied at three a piece entering the top of the eighth, Jose “Pito” Abreu made the difference in Wednesday’s game. He hit his second homer on a ball smoked to left center field to give the White Sox a 4-3 lead and win. The Sox will make the trip back to Chicago tonight ahead of tomorrow’s long awaited home opener.
