After flying under the radar for quite a while now, the national recognition is finally starting to kick in.
The White Sox announced via Twitter that starting pitcher Dylan Cease has been named the American League Pitcher of the Month for June. It’s the first time in his career that he’s received a monthly honor.
Cease, 26, was lights out in five starts last month, going 2-1 with a 0.33 ER (1 ER/27.1 IP), 45 strikeouts, and a mere .192 opponent’s batting average. In his latest outing against the Baltimore Orioles, Cease struck out a career-high 13 batters across seven innings in one of his most electrifying starts to date.
With the MLB All-Star Game just a few weeks away, it’s becoming increasingly likely that the right-hander could be getting some additional recognition for his strong first half. He will look to keep up the momentum in his start on Saturday afternoon against the Giants.
