Dylan Cease Named July AL Pitcher of the Month

by Jordan Lazowski

More good news comes out for the White Sox, though it once again doesn’t involve any moves at the Trade Deadline. Dylan Cease was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for July, as the team announced on Twitter.

Cease has now been named the AL Pitcher of the Month for the second consecutive month, which is the first time in White Sox history that this has occurred. After posting a 0.33 ERA in 27.1 innings in June, Cease followed it up with an incredible July, posting a 0.76 ERA in 35.2 innings. Hitters hit .188/.268/.297 against him in those 35.2 innings, and he struck out 40 while only walking 13.

On the season, Cease is 11-4 with a 2.01 ERA, 2.69 FIP, 33.3 K%, and 10.4 BB% in 116.2 innings, good for 3.3 fWAR so far. He is second in baseball with 161 strikeouts, just one behind Gerrit Cole for the major league lead. His slider is also considered one of the best pitches in baseball with a -30 run value – by far, the best pitch in baseball.

In what has been a rather disappointing season from the White Sox, Dylan Cease has been a bright spot for the future of the ballclub. Hopefully, he continues to work his way towards some hardware by the end of the season.
