A new report has surfaced from an MLB analyst that suggests one fan-favorite is still alive in the White Sox managerial search.
According to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score, Ozzie Guillen remains a potential candidate for the team’s vacancy. While during the last search, the White Sox and Rick Hahn were quick to rule Guillen out of their potential candidates, Levine says things appear to be different this time around.
“All I know from what I hear is he [Guillen] has not been ruled out. Does that mean he’s the next manager of the White Sox? No. I’m just saying they are considering anybody and everybody.”
Guillen, in the past, has not been shy about his desire to potentially manage the club. He recently said on NBC Sports Chicago that he is interested in “listening” to the White Sox if they reach out, though doesn’t necessarily consider the job to be in his future plans.
“It is not in my plans. I don’t know if it is in the White Sox’ plans,” Guillen said on NBC Sports Chicago. “Even if they think I can help them for next year, I’m very open to listening to it.”
To date, the White Sox have reportedly been in contact with Houston’s Joe Espada, Kansas City’s Pedro Grifol, and Atlanta’s Ron Washington. Other potential front-runners include Bruce Bochy, Mike Shildt, and Joe Girardi based on the early reports that have surfaced. Though none of the aforementioned names have any ties to the organization, Hahn has said candidates don’t need to have a “White Sox DNA” in order to be considered. However, Hahn has also stated that Miguel Cairo will receive an interview following the work he did with the club as the interim manager in the last month of 2022.
With the managerial search expected to ramp up throughout the week, more information will likely be made public. Until the process plays out, it will be hard to keep Guillen’s name out of the rumor-mill thanks to the support he has from the fanbase.
