Let the rumors swirl about the White Sox managerial search.
The latest comes courtesy of MLB insider Jon Heyman, who said on 670 The Score that he believes chairman Jerry Reinsdorf will take the backseat in the upcoming process following the failed hire of Tony La Russa. Heyman, instead, expects Reinsdorf to place his trust in the front office to make the final decision.
“I do think at this point since the last one didn’t work out, as Tony [La Russa] admitted, I think Jerry [Reinsdorf] will allow Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams to make the call this time,” Heyman said during his Thursday appearance on the Mully & Haugh Show.
Whether purely opinion-based or not, this belief would make sense given that Hahn has already said he would spearhead the organization’s efforts. With it being labeled as a “collaborative” process, Reinsdorf still figures to have some level of involvement, even if it ends up falling on the “limited” end of the spectrum based on recent reports.
During Monday’s presser, Hahn shared the following qualities that will be considered in managerial candidates:
- Recent experience in the dugout with a team that has experienced championships.
- Managerial experience is NOT a requirement.
- Excellent communicator who understands the way of the game; has grown and evolved but has “old school sensibilities.”
- Having a history with the White Sox is not a requirement, with the exception that Miguel Cairo will receive an interview.
As for potential candidates, there seems to be a solid half-dozen names that consistently get thrown around. Heyman just so happened to mention a few of them, including Houston bench coach Joe Espada, Tampa Bay bench coach Matt Quatraro, Milwaukee bench coach Pat Murphy, and San Diego interim third base coach Mike Shildt.

I hope it is true that Reinsdorf plans to stay out of the hiring process this time around! Reinsdorf screwed up this team badly enough with the La Russa hire! Anymore Reinsdorf screw ups could ruin this team beyond repair! Tom Hall
