Happy Friday, y’all! Hopefully the drinks are flowing as you’re kicking back for this holiday weekend. I want to take a second to check in on the KBO (Korean Baseball Organization) and see how our old friends Odrisamer Despaigne and Tyler Saladino are doing.
Now unfortunately, like a lot of you I’m sure, I haven’t been able to watch a whole lot of these games since they are broadcasted during the middle of the night. With nothing else really going on this evening, I got bored and decided to check in on the stats.
I’ll start things off with the right-hander who we all watched get rocked in his three starts with the Sox last season. Surprisingly (or not), he’s the exact opposite of the pitcher with the 9.45 ERA we knew and loved. Despaigne now ranks towards the top of the league in several different categories.
- Games Appeared: 4
- Record: 1-0
- Win Percentage: 1.000 (Tied 1st)
- Innings Pitched: 24
- Hits Allowed: 21
- Walks: 2
- Strikeouts: 21 (Ranks 4th)
- ERA: 2.25 (Tied 6th)
- WHIP: 0.96 (Tied 3rd)
- Opponent’s Average: .228
- Quality Starts: 3 (Tied 2nd)
Overall, pretty damn good for the KT Wiz pitcher. While the team’s 6-9 record isn’t ideal, it looks like the club has themselves a pretty reliable vet giving them a chance every few days.
As for Saladino, the former Sox infielder isn’t having as much luck in his first 13 games.
- Plate Appearances: 39
- Runs Scored: 3
- Hits: 5
- Doubles: 1
- Home Runs: 1
- RBI: 2
- Caught Stealing: 1
- Walks: 3
- Strikeouts: 14
- AVG: .143
- SLG: .257
- OBP: .231
We’ll keep an eye on the action and see if Saladino can turn it on and breakout of the early slump. If you want some more KBO content in your life, check out our interview with the current Samsung Lions shortstop by clicking here.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll probably put another one of these blogs together and we’ll see where both guys stand. In the meantime, stay tuned to our social media @SoxOn35th for some other White Sox related news!
