The White Sox didn’t get great news regarding Lance Lynn; that being said, they didn’t get the worst news ever either.
This afternoon, Rick Hahn announced that Lance Lynn suffered a slight tear in the tendon by his right knee and will require surgery to be performed on Tuesday. Recovery will require 4 weeks and a period of ramp up after that. This will likely be a 6-8 week injury in total for Lynn, putting him back likely by June.
Lynn injured himself after throwing a pitch in last night’s game against the Diamondbacks. Lynn would immediately hobble off the mound and into the dugout, not throwing another pitch after the initial injury. It appeared that he tweaked something a few pitches before, which the Diamondbacks broadcast had commented on, as his pace slowed down compared to usual.
Lynn, as you’ll remember, missed some time in 2021 due to right knee inflammation, so it makes sense that the knee flared up again. Hopefully, surgery will help to stabilize his knee

For now, the White Sox will likely look to replace Lynn’s innings externally, as there are few pitchers in baseball who could replace Lynn’s production over the past few seasons. In the meantime, until the White Sox find a solution, Vince Velasquez and Reynaldo Lopez are likely to see an increased workload until a more stable starting option presents itself.
This news could be better, but it also could be worse. This will lessen the workload on Lynn’s arm heading into October, but in the meantime, it puts the White Sox in a tough position in the near-term. Lucas Giolito, Dylan Cease, Michael Kopech, and Dallas Keuchel will really need to step up in the meantime to combat this injury until further reinforcements come.
