The White Sox’s best player now has a new agent.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Luis Robert Jr. has hired Scott Boras and the Boras Corporation to represent him moving forward. The centerfielder was previously working with Magnus Sports, the athlete representation branch of Magnus Media.
Robert Jr., 26, established career highs in nearly every offensive category in 2023 and proved himself to be one of Major League Baseball’s best players. Over 145 games, he slashed .264/.315/.542 (144-for-546) with 36 doubles, 38 home runs, 80 RBI, 20 stolen bases, and an .857 OPS.
The All-Star also became the only player in White Sox history to hit 35-plus doubles, 35-plus home runs, and steal 20-plus bases in a single season. Robert Jr.’s 38 homers are a franchise record by a centerfielder, the most by an outfielder since Jermaine Dye (44) in 2006, and the most by a Sox player since Todd Frazier (40) in 2016.
Ultimately, the agency change signals the obvious for Robert Jr. and we all know it. The outfielder will command a lucrative deal one day, and he’s just hired the best in the business to make sure that happens. As a reminder for fans, however, there’s no need to panic over losing Robert Jr. in free agency just yet.
The White Sox originally signed the Cuban native to a six-year contract extension back in 2020, which will undoubtedly extend to eight years once options are exercised. More simply put, Robert Jr. will remain under team control for the next four years and won’t become an unrestricted free agent until 2028. Though there’s still a chance he’s traded depending on the long-term direction of the organization, expect to see Robert Jr. manning centerfield for the foreseeable future.
If there’s any silver lining to this situation, it’s that 2028 is still quite a bit away. A change in ownership would work wonders for improving the likelihood of another deal taking place. Otherwise, don’t take the rest of the Luis Robert Jr. era for granted.
