There’s no such thing as good news when it comes to the White Sox.
The team announced in a tweet that Luis Robert Jr. felt tightness in his right calf during the first round of Monday’s Home Run Derby. He underwent an MRI in Seattle and is currently listed as day-to-day. As a result, Robert Jr. will not play in tonight’s All-Star Game as a precaution and will be evaluated again before the second half begins on Friday in Atlanta.
Robert Jr., 25, put on a show in his first round of Monday’s Home Run Derby to defeat Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman and advance with 28 home runs. However, the White Sox center fielder eventually lost the home run swing a bit in the second round and exited the competition after losing to Randy Arozarena. Perhaps the apparent injury now provides a reason for his slowdown, though his pitcher Luis Sierra didn’t help matters much on the mound.
On the season, Robert Jr. is slashing .271/.330/.569 with 26 homers, 51 RBI, 143 wRC+, and 3.7 fWAR. Though nobody on the team is more deserving of the honor, the White Sox will not have any active representatives playing in tonight’s All-Star Game.
As more information becomes available, we will provide further information.

When a list of great disasters of the 21st Century comes out, the White Sox of the 2020’s have to be one of them. This team can make a mess of anything! Luis Robert being in the Home Run Derby and being the only Sox player to make the All Star Team was supposed to be positive news and a source of good publicity in an otherwise catastrophic year! What happens? Luis Robert gets hurt, misses the All Star Game and is now day to day! We are well beyond the point where we can attribute this to bad luck! Something is totally screwed up with this whole organization!
