The White Sox could be getting their center fielder back in time for a crucial four-game series against the Astros.
In Sunday’s post-game press conference, manager Tony La Russa said that Luis Robert is improving after suffering a sprained wrist in Friday night’s game. The team will evaluate Robert again before Monday night’s opener against Houston. If he isn’t able to play tomorrow, then it seems likely that he could return to action shortly after, with an IL trip currently not considered an option.
Robert, 25, originally injured his wrist when sliding into second base in the team’s first game versus Detroit. He appeared to jam it as Jonathan Schoop blocked the bag with his leg during the play. Luckily, x-rays came back negative, and Robert’s status was listed the same as day-to-day.
Though he’s battled his fair share of injuries as of late, Robert is slashing .301/.336/.454 with 12 home runs, 56 RBI, and .790 OPS on the year. His healthy presence in the lineup will be crucial, especially in a week where a trip to Cleveland on the back-end will have major implications in the divisional race.
