As much as White Sox fans hoped Mark Buehrle would see Cooperstown this year, the voters in the Baseball Writers’ Association thought differently.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2023 has been announced, with Scott Rolen being the only one of the 28 candidates to reach the necessary 75% of support. Players like Todd Helton (72.2%), Billy Wagner (68.1%), and Andruw Jones (58.1%) fell short.
Buehrle received 42 votes this time appearing on 10.8% of ballots, compared to 44 votes in 2021 and 23 votes in 2022.
The former White Sox left-hander finished his career with a 214-160 career record and a 3.81 ERA. The five-time All-Star threw 14 consecutive seasons with 200 or more innings pitched, falling just four outs short of extending that streak to 15 in his final season.
He will enter his fourth year on the ballot in 2024 with hopes of a better outcome.
