Not much has gone the White Sox’s way over the past week or so. Following their six-game winning streak, the team has struggled both from an offensive and health standpoint. Unfortunately, the woes only continued in Detroit last night with another loss, leaving the team with just one win over their past six contests. Despite all of the negatives, however, the Sox have still found themselves ranked No. 15 or higher in this week’s MLB Power Rankings.
Here’s a complete look at where media outlets placed the club.

“The surprise here is some of the production from the expected bench players: Leury Garcia, Danny Mendick, Adam Engel and James McCann have all been effective at the plate, making up for the slow starts of newcomers Yasmani Grandal and Edwin Encarnacion and Tim Anderson’s IL stint. The back of the bullpen — Alex Colome, Aaron Bummer and Evan Marshall — also has been superb.” – ESPN.com staff

“Edwin Encarnacion is hitting .200 with 13 strikeouts in 30 at-bats. He also prevents Eloy Jimenez from the DH spot and that kid seems intent on destroying his body in left field.” – Matt Snyder

“Rookie Luis Robert hit .357 in his first seven games batting leadoff.” – Jesse Yomtov

Bleacher Report: 14
“After a four-game split with the Brewers and a series loss to the Indians, the White Sox now sit at .500 on the season with a minus-three run differential. Lucas Giolito and Dylan Cease have both pitched well since turning in rocky 2020 debuts and Dallas Keuchel has been terrific, but the other two spots in the rotation have posted a combined 7.72 ERA in six games.” – Joel Reuter

“The White Sox have shown flashes that they’re on the verge of becoming a real force. Chicago is loaded with power throughout the lineup, with five players having gone deep three times, and rank ninth in the majors in team OPS. Luis Robert is off to an excellent start to his rookie year, hitting .302/.362/.460 with six extra-base hits in 16 games.” – theScore Staff

“White Sox starting pitchers have scuffled so far with a collective 5.46 ERA. The bullpen, though, has been stellar. Alex Colomé, Evan Marshall, Ross Detwiler and Matt Foster have pitched a combined 23 1/3 innings of relief without allowing a run.” – Will Laws and Nick Selbe

The Sox will look to regroup, stay healthy, and take advantage of these upcoming games against the Tigers and hopefully, the Cardinals this weekend (fingers crossed). If offensive struggles and injuries continue, be prepared to see a nosedive in the next round of rankings.
Check back early next week as we’ll provide another update on where the team stands.
