The White Sox are giving you a reason to go to the ballpark on Monday.
After Sunday’s loss against the Reds, it was announced that Nick Nastrini would be called up from Triple-A Charlotte to start Monday’s series opener against the Royals. This will mark Nastrini’s major league debut.
Nastrini, 24, was acquired by the White Sox from the Los Angeles Dodgers in last year’s trade of Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly in exchange for Jordan Leasure and the aforementioned Nastrini. The right-hander has thrown seven innings in Triple-A this season, posting a 7.71 ERA, striking out 35.1% of batters, and walking 8.1% of them. He posted a strong 3.77 ERA in Spring Training that had most reports stating that he was the team’s fifth starter to open the season – however, he was optioned to start the season, and the White Sox have used a bullpen day in that fifth rotation spot up to this point.
To clear a space on the active roster, relief pitcher Justin Anderson was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte following Sunday’s game. The White Sox still do need to create a 40-man roster spot for Nick Nastrini – and may also need to create another one for their third starter of this series (still listed as TBA). So far, the White Sox have confirmed Nastrini and Erick Fedde as two of the starters in this series.
