Oscar Colás to Represent White Sox at 2022 MLB Futures Game

by Jordan Lazowski

While White Sox fans have become very familiar with the team’s low farm system ranking, there have certainly been glimmers of hope to come this season. While several White Sox players were certainly worthy of an award such as a nomination to the MLB Futures Game, it was Oscar Colás who earned the nomination this year to the team.

The full AL and NL Futures Rosters can be found below:

Colás, 23, came over to the White Sox this offseason and is in his first season with the High-A Winston-Salem Dash. Through 56 games and 257 plate appearances, Colás is slashing .316/.374/.487 with seven home runs and 42 runs batted in. He is striking out just 19.8% of the time while walking 8.2% of the time.

While there have been some concerns about his ability to stick in CF, he has played out there in Winston-Salem all season and has made some highlight reel plays throughout the season.

He is just about due for a promotion to Double-A Birmingham, which, given the results, is likely to come sooner rather than later. He will join players such as Jose Rodriguez and Yoelquis Cespedes at that level, as the talent within the organization continues to rise.

The 2022 MLB Futures Game will take place on Saturday, July 16, before the All-Star Game the following day. It will take place at 6 PM CT on Peacock, with the game re-airing on MLB Network at 7:30 PM CT later that evening. 31 of the 50 players between the two rosters are currently Top 100 prospects. Colás is not currently one, which speaks to how impressive he has been this season.
