The White Sox were powered by five solo home runs and a two-run shot in another victory over the Tigers. Gio Gonzalez and the bullpen combined to hold Detroit to two runs, and the White Sox cruised to the win. Chicago improves to 12-11, while the Tigers fall to 9-11.
W: Codi Heuer (1-0) | L: Matthew Boyd (0-3)
Notable Performances
Gio Gonzalez: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 10 K
Gio Gonzalez registered fourteen outs against the Tigers for the second straight start, but limited them to two runs. His curveball was effective tonight, as he struck out ten batters despite his relatively short outing.
Ok, time to tell you about home runs.
Luis Robert: 2-for-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI
After striking out in his first two plate appearances, Robert delivered with two bombs late in the game.
Yoan Moncada: 2-for-5, HR, RBI
Yoan Moncada hit a solo home run as a right-handed hitter in his first plate appearance of the game, just one pitch after Tim Anderson hit one of his own (spoiler alert).
Tim Anderson: 2-for-5, 2 HR, 2 RBI
Tim Anderson worked two magnificent at-bats off Matthew Boyd, both featuring impressive takes and foul balls off tough pitches. As a result, he hit two solo home runs in his first two plate appearances. Even his last appearance resulted in a barreled ball (108 MPH off the bat) right at the center fielder. Needless to say, Tim Anderson is locked in at the plate.
Danny Mendick: 1-for-4, HR, RBI
Last but not least, Danny Mendick got in on the action with a line drive solo homer in the sixth inning.
Moment(s) of the Game
It was not easy to choose between all of these home runs, so the first two (which were back-to-back) get the nod.
However, here is an honorable mention to yet another highlight of Luis Robert stealing a ball from another outfielder on a routine play.
Player of the Game
