The White Sox won three very different ballgames this series: a blowout, a close game that shouldn’t have been, and then capped off the series with a dominant performance on the road to the sweep.
Carlos Rodon took a no-hitter into the seventh inning today, while the offense did just enough with Tim Anderson and Yermin Mercedes on the bench to scratch across four runs. Leury Garcia drove in two runs (2B, BB) and Abreu (1B) and Danny Mendick (HBP) each drove in one of their own.
With the win, the White Sox improve to 41-24 on the season and are 5.5 games up on the Indians in the AL Central.

Carlos Rodon continued his string of success this season, adding another seven innings of dominant baseball to his all-star resume. He allowed just one hit – a seventh inning double to Eric Haase after a missed strike three call – while walking two batters. He did throw upwards of 100 pitches, so it was a long afternoon for Rodon. However, he turned the game over to the bullpen with just six outs to get, which is more than you can ask for from your starter.
Leury Garcia: 2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, BB
Leury Garcia has begun to turn his season around, as his two hits on the day as the leadoff hitter raised his average to .244 on the season. With so many injuries for the White Sox, Leury Garcia has become ever-more crucial to this team’s success – hopefully, he can begin to return to career norms.
Jose Abreu: 3-for-5, RBI
Jose Abreu quietly had a really solid day at the plate. While he only drove in one run, he also added two more hits on the day to raise his average to .262 on the season while still holding the team lead in RBI.
Moment of the Game
It was a familiar sight for Sox fans: Carlos Rodon had given up no hits late into the game. With the count at 2-2, it looked as if Rodon had rung up Eric Haase on a slider (Pitch 5). Instead, it was called a ball, and Haase would go on to double later in the at-bat.
To be fair to the umpire – it wasn’t the best framed pitch. However, still stinks to see the no-hitter lost on the call. What could’ve been…
