A couple scattered rallies, strong starting pitching, and a two-run blast from Yasmani Grandal were not enough for the White Sox in a 5-4 loss against the Pirates. The White Sox are now 26-16 but remain tied for first place in the AL Central. The Pirates improve to 14-25.
W: Richard Rodriguez (2-2) | L: Ross Detwiler (1-1)
Notable Performances
Dylan Cease: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Dylan Cease did not walk any batters over five innings of work. His first four innings were relatively clean, but the Pirates’ hitters started seeing him better in the fifth inning, so Cease was pulled after allowing a leadoff single in the sixth. Overall, it was a decent start for Cease.
Tim Anderson: 2-for-5, 2B
Tim Anderson registered two hits and scored from second base on a single that barely left the infield.
Nick Madrigal: 2-for-3, 2 2B, BB
Nick Madrigal registered his first career extra-base hit with a sharp double to left field, then followed with a double to right field in the ninth inning. However, both of his doubles led to him being thrown out on the basepaths in the following at-bat.
Moment of the Game
Yasmani Grandal gave the White Sox some extra breathing room with this two-run home run.
Looking Ahead
Dane Dunning and J.T. Brubaker will face off in tomorrow’s series finale in Pittsburgh at 6:05 PM CT. The White Sox will then have a day off on Thursday before opening a three-game home series against the Tigers.
