It was a well fought battle between the two best teams in the American League in the first of a three-game series. Both Tyler Glasnow and Lance Lynn pitched well, overall limiting the offense for the opposing team. Unfortunately for the Sox, the Rays were able to take advantage of the long ball which got them the early 3-0 lead, and the Sox bats weren’t quite up to the task against a stout Rays bullpen.
The White Sox’ two runs came in the bottom of the third inning via hits from Leury Garcia, Tim Anderson, and Brian Goodwin, but that’s all they were able to muster.
With the loss, the White Sox fall to 41-25 on the season.

What started off as a little bit of a shaky start turned into a very solid overall performance from Lynn. He managed to battle through 6 innings and keep the Sox in the game despite not having his best stuff all night. His ERA still sits at a very nice 1.51, and we should expect to see him in the upcoming All Star game.
Tim Anderson: 2-4, 2B
Tim has been heating up in recent games and continues to find ways to get on base. He got the Sox going with a hustle double early on, and then was driven in on a single by Brian Goodwin. Anderson has reached base at least twice in 7 of the last 8 games he’s played in, and the Sox will need his bat more than ever with the injuries piling up.
Brian Goodwin: 1-3, BB, 2 K
Goodwin has done nothing but produce since being called up from Charlotte to the Sox. After his breakout performance against the Tigers, he got off to a solid start in this series, driving in another run and providing a few good at bats. With injuries mounting up for the Sox, Goodwin’s performance is certainly a boost.
Matchup of the Game
With a runner on in the 1st inning, Lance Lynn faced Austin Meadows, in what turned out to be a crucial at bat in the game. Meadows was able to connect with a sinker on the second pitch, and gave the Rays an early 2-0 lead. Although Lynn battled back from that at bat, the Sox bats were never able to quite catch back up.
Next Game
The Sox take on the Rays again tomorrow in the 2nd of the 3 game series. Dallas Keuchel will be on the mound against Shane McClanahan for Tampa Bay.
