Postgame Report: Twins 10, White Sox 5

by Nik Gaur

The Twins prevailed in what had the makings of a wild, back-and-forth season opener, only for the White Sox bats to go quiet as the game progressed. Starting pitchers Lucas Giolito and Jose Berrios fell prey to dangerous offenses, as neither made it to the fifth inning.

Notable Performances

Eloy Jimenez: 2-for-3, 2B, BB

Eloy Jimenez looked fantastic at the plate. He produced two rocket hits off Jose Berrios, then worked a nice walk against Tyler Clippard.

Yoan Moncada: 3-for-5, HR, 2B, 3 RBI

Yoan Moncada appears to be just as good as he was in 2019, as he picked up right where he left off. Moncada crushed baseballs to the tune of a three-hit performance, highlighted by a three-run home run that tied the game early.

Jace Fry: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Jace Fry was stellar for the White Sox out of the bullpen, as he retired all four batters he faced. If he can pitch more like he did in 2018, the team’s bullpen suddenly becomes a lot more intimidating.

Codi Heuer: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Codi Heuer made his MLB debut in the ninth inning, and he was effective. Heuer retired every batter he faced, and struck out Mitch Garver on a full count.

Luis Robert: 2-for-4, 2B

In his MLB debut, Luis Robert smoked a ball for a single to left field on the very first pitch he saw. In the eight inning, he fouled off some tough pitches before hitting an opposite-field double. All things considered, it was a successful debut for the young center fielder.

Moment of the Game

Luis Robert‘s aforementioned first hit was a great moment, as he flashed his immense potential with one quick swing.

Player of the Game

Why not Luis Robert? Moncada had more hits, but Robert’s debut was the highlight of the game.

Looking Ahead

The White Sox and Twins are back in action in just 14 hours, as the teams meet again at 1:10 PM CT tomorrow. Randy Dobnak will start for the Twins (as Rich Hill was scratched) and Dallas Keuchel will take the mound for the White Sox.
