Postgame Report: Twins 14, White Sox 2

by Nik Gaur

The Twins teed off against the White Sox today in what was a fairly forgettable afternoon for Chicago. The lone excitement was produced by Luis Robert, who hit his first career home run in the fifth inning. Nelson Cruz drove in seven runs (not a typo) for Minnesota.

W: Kenta Maeda | L: Reynaldo Lopez | SV: None

Notable Performances

Gio Gonzalez: 3.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 3 K

While Gio Gonzalez’s relief appearance did not produce overwhelming results, it is at least notable that he finally pitched for the White Sox after three stints with the team over a sixteen-year span.

Adam Engel: 3-for-4, 2 2B

Adam Engel continued his hot streak, as he collected three hits and two doubles this afternoon.

Injuries: Eloy Jimenez & Reynaldo Lopez

Eloy Jimenez did not make any plate appearances today as he collided with the left field fence in the first inning.

Lopez had an eerie outing in which his velocity was noticeably down, leading to a grand slam from Jake Cave and a subsequent early exit. Lopez threw two-thirds of an inning and allowed three hits, four runs, and two walks.

Moment of the Game & Player of the Game

Luis Robert‘s first career home run was the highlight of the afternoon for the White Sox, making him the player of the game. Robert went 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs batted in, and a walk.

Looking Ahead

The White Sox are heading to Cleveland to play three games. The first will take place at 6:10 PM CT on Monday. Dylan Cease will be making his season debut for the White Sox, and he will be facing Aaron Civale.

Yipes! There goes the starter pitching depth that the Sox were so proud of. I hope it ain’t so bad with Lopez.
