The White Sox were the ones to jump out to the early lead in large thanks to a superb White Sox debut from Dallas Keuchel. In addition to the solid outing from the White Sox No. 2 starter, the club also flexed their muscle throughout the day slugging 5 home runs.
W: Dallas Keuchel (1-0) | L: Randy Dobnak (0-1)
Notable Performances
Dallas Keuchel: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER
Keuchel made his official White Sox debut and did not disappoint. The two earned runs will bother him, as they were added to his tally after he was taken out. He was able to keep the Twins from getting the ball in the air, which is something you should be able to expect out of him all season.
James McCann: 3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI
The White Sox have a great problem and that is having two All-Star catchers to use at their disposal game in and game out. McCann picked up right where he left off last season, delivering a few big hits in this one.
Edwin Encarnacion: 1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI
Albeit one hit for the Parrot in this one, it was a mammoth. With the Sox up 2-0, Encarnacion put them up 4-0 with a moonshot to left. It was also his White Sox debut today.
Moment of the Game
With the White Sox up 7-3 and threatening for more in the bottom of the 7th, Leury Garcia delivered the final blow to the Twins, crushing a bomb to the left-field bleachers.
Player of the Game
Leury Garcia put a rough season opener behind him and delivered in a huge way batting in the ninth spot of the lineup. Garcia went 3-for-4 with two home runs (one from each side of the plate) and four RBI.
Looking Ahead
The White Sox will look to take the series victory over the Twins tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 CT at Guaranteed Rate Field. Reynaldo Lopez will take the mound for the White Sox against the Twins’ Kenta Maeda.
