After two blowouts, we finally got the pitchers’ duel we were promised in Game 3.
Lance Lynn and Brandon Woodruff were both excellent in the effort on Sunday Night Baseball, but Lance Lynn was able to our duel Woodruff across six innings of one-run baseball as the White Sox took the series finale 3-1.
A dominant Lynn was followed by Michael Kopech and Liam Hendriks (who covered two innings in the effort). On the offense, there wasn’t much to speak of, as Lynn himself was responsible for 2/3 of the runs scored tonight on his RBI single. Seby Zavala took care of the other run just one batter before Lynn.
With the win, the White Sox salvage the series finale and improve to 59-40 on the season.
W: Lance Lynn (10-3) | L: Brandon Woodruff (7-5) | S: Liam Hendriks (24)
Savant Leaders
Notable Performances
Lance Lynn: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 8 Swinging Strikes
Lance Lynn was excellent this evening, turning in a much-needed solid performance that kept the White Sox in the game late. Lynn lowered his league-leading ERA to 1.91 on the season and, for the most part, did an excellent job limiting damage. He also created some damage of his own – a two-run single that provided to be the difference in the ballgame.
Seby Zavala: 1-for-3, 1B, RBI, K
The only other run of the game came courtesy of Seby Zavala, making it two unlikely heroes for the White Sox in this game. Zavala opened the scoring in the second with a two-out RBI single, giving the White Sox a lead they wouldn’t give back. Zavala recorded his first career RBI in the effort, but most importantly, has been a really solid defensive catcher behind the plate for the Sox.
Liam Hendriks: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, Save
Liam Hendriks was phenomenal tonight, covering two innings of work for the South Siders in a much-needed win. Credit goes to Tony La Russa in this one as well – going to Hendriks in the eighth was a great non-conventional move.
