Inning after inning, the White Sox and Twins scraped their way to rallies, but failed to convert, save for one run apiece. However, the White Sox finally broke through in the eighth inning with a massive and relieving two runs. Those runs were enough for the victory, which pushes Chicago to 31-16 and two full games ahead of Minnesota in the standings. The Twins fall to 30-19.
W: Alex Colome (2-0) | L: Taylor Rogers (1-4)
Notable Performances
Dylan Cease: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 5 BB, 4 K
It was a mixed bag for Dylan Cease tonight. His change-up looked as good as it has all season, and he induced more swings-and-misses than usual. Yet, he walked five batters following an outing last week in which he walked zero. Nevertheless, he induced a couple of clutch double plays and kept the White Sox in the game.
Yoan Moncada: 0-for-1, 3 BB
Yoan Moncada reached base safely three times, scored two runs, and made a couple of nice defensive plays on hard-hit balls at third base.
Nick Madrigal: 1-for-4, RBI
Nick Madrigal recorded an RBI single to put the White Sox ahead in the second inning. At the time, it seemed like the game would be high-scoring for both teams, but this hit ended up being crucial.
Tim Anderson: 3-for-5, 2B, RBI
Another day, another three-hit effort for Tim Anderson. One cannot say enough about how dangerous and intelligent of a hitter Anderson has become since he debuted in 2016.
The Bullpen: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 3 K
Codi Heuer, Evan Marshall, Gio Gonzalez, and Alex Colome combined to keep the Twins off the scoreboard despite having to consistently work out of dangerous situations.
Moment of the Game
When two teams combine to strand 27 (not a typo) runners on base, an RBI single to score one run feels like a dagger.
