On the night of Jake Burger’s debut, the White Sox extended their winning streak to five games with an 8-2 win over the Tigers this evening. Lance Lynn was effectively wild across six innings of work, while Codi Heuer, Jose Ruiz, and Matt Foster were solid in relief.
Jake Burger did get his first two career hits today, while Brian Goodwin (RBI 3B), Yasmani Grandal (RBI 1B), Danny Mendick (SF, RBI 1B), Gavin Sheets (3-run HR), and Andrew Vaughn (HR) provided the offensive output. The bottom four hitters in the lineup accounted for seven of the team’s eleven hits on the evening.
Yasmani Grandal unfortunately did leave the game early in this one, however, after experiencing left calf tightness. There is no report on his condition currently.
With the win, the White Sox improve to 49-32 on the season and have a six game lead over Cleveland.

Savant Leaders
Notable Performances
Lance Lynn: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 9 K, 16 Swinging Strikes
Lynn was uncharacteristically wild this evening, walking five batters across just six innings and accumulating over 110 pitches. However, he worked out of several jams and kept the Tigers off the board for most of the game, all while lowering his ERA to 2.02 on the season.
Jake Burger: 2-for-4, 2B, 1B
Jake Burger is an absolutely incredible story. After going through two rehabs on his Achilles, Burger found himself in the majors today after mashing in AAA Charlotte. He started his day 0-for-2 before a seeing-eye double gave him his first career hit. His second was no cheapy, however, as he laced a single to RF on a pretty good pitch.
It’s awesome to see Burger in the majors – hopefully, he is here to stay in some capacity.
Andrew Vaughn: 2-for-4, HR, RBI, R
Andrew Vaughn continues his recent tear against the league, adding two more hits in the effort. Vaughn is beginning to hit RHP really well, which would be a welcome sight for this team. This young rookie continues to grow.
Gavin Sheets: 1-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, BB
Gavin Sheets continues his assault on major league pitching to start his career, adding a moonshot homer for some insurance runs late in this one. Sheets has a .400/.412/.933 slash line to start his career, and his process at the plate has been pretty awesome. Between him and Burger, the White Sox have some things to look forward to in the near future.
Other Notables:
Adam Eaton: 2-for-4, R
Danny Mendick: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, R
Brian Goodwin: 1-for-4, 3B, RBI
Yasmani Grandal: 1-for-2, RBI
Moment of the Game
This game wasn’t always a blowout. In the sixth inning, Lance Lynn got himself into some trouble with two runners on and two outs in a 3-1 ballgame. Batter Jake Rogers and Lynn had a tight duel, but Lynn got the better of the Tigers catcher to end the threat and end his gutsy performance.
Next Game
The White Sox and Tigers go back to work tomorrow afternoon, as Dallas Keuchel will battle fellow lefty Tarik Skubal in MoTown. The game will begin at 3:10 PM CT on NBC Sports Chicago.
