Postgame Report: White Sox 9, Yankees 8

by Jordan Lazowski

If you weren’t excited for this game, you completely missed out. If you were excited, this was everything you hoped for and then some.

The White Sox and Yankees entered the Field of Dreams game out of the corn in right-center field and proceeded to launch balls into that same corn all night. The matchup of Lance Lynn and Andrew Heaney was far from a pitchers’ duel, and just when you thought this game was over, it proved to be far from it.

The White Sox had a 7-4 game with two outs in the ninth before Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton unleashed two-run homers to give the Yankees a 8-7 lead. Just when fans began to turn off their TVs or head for the exits, TA7 flipped the script once again.

A magical ending to a magical night for the White Sox.

With the win, the White Sox improve to 68-48 and are 11 games up in the AL Central.

W: Liam Hendriks (7-2) | L: Zach Britton (0-1)

Notable Performances

Lance Lynn: 5 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 2 HR

It was far from a stellar night for the Big Horse, but Lynn got the White Sox into the sixth after pitching a pretty good ballgame. He battled his command all night, but was able to keep the star-studded Yankees lineup at bay for the most part. Lynn’s ERA jumped to 2.26 on the season, but he remains a stud in the White Sox’ rotation.

Jose Abreu: 1-for-2, HR, RBI, R, 2 BB, K

Jose Abreu only had one hit on the night, but it was a big one: the first major league home run hit in the state of Iowa. Cool piece of history for the first baseman.

Eloy Jimenez: 2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, R

Man, is it nice to see Eloy Jimenez back in the middle of the lineup. His three-run homer to RF was the difference-maker in this ballgame.

Tim Anderson: 2-for-5, HR, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R

Tim Anderson provided the only run on the night that wasn’t scored on a homer, poking a double into the left field corner that scored Adam Engel. He later provided the win that you saw above – a magical Iowa moment. Anderson is hitting .300 on the season after tonight’s effort.

Seby Zavala: 1-for-3, HR, BB, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 K

Seby Zavala continues to be a pleasant surprise for the White Sox behind the plate this season. He calls good games, catches them well, and provides surprise power, just as he did tonight. He also drew the crucial walk in the bottom of the ninth that started the game-winning rally.
