Report: Reinsdorf held a “lengthy” private meeting with Getz, Grifol

by Joe Binder

As is customary every Sunday morning, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale provided us with our weekly dose of White Sox news and rumors.

In today’s Sunday notebook, Nightengale revealed that chairman Jerry Reinsdorf held a “lengthy” private meeting with GM Chris Getz and manager Pedro Grifol on Wednesday. The trio discussed a “myriad of issues” related to the team along with Grifol’s future at the helm, which has been extended at least through this weekend.

Nightengale acknowledged what many others have reported, saying Grifol could still be fired any day now. Though unlikely, the skipper could also last until the end of the season “if they suddenly start sprinkling in a few victories.” Either way, the White Sox do not have any plans to search for a permanent replacement until the offseason.

Grifol, who has one year remaining on his three-year, $3 million contract, owns a disastrous 88-187 record in his White Sox tenure over parts of two seasons. While he doesn’t deserve all of the blame, especially given the hand he was dealt heading into this year, Grifol’s had plenty of shortcomings in his first and possibly only managerial stint. The White Sox are currently on a healthy pace to surpass the New York Mets’ all-time record of 120 losses in 1962, likely resulting in the front office’s thinning patience.

With only one game separating the Sox from their 20th straight loss, could Sunday’s finale be the last straw for Grifol? We’ll be keeping a close eye on the managerial situation for any further developments.

I just don’t see Ebenezer Jerry bowing to fans or common sense. GriFail will not be fired. And, since he has 1 year left on his deal at seasons end…. I can see Sox simply re-assigning within the organization. Jerry won’t pay a non-player not to work.

Frank

Let Grifol get the record 26 losses !

Was Jerry letting them know the other owners have called him out and ordered him to sell…I can only dream.

White Sox the GM is just as bad as rhe manager- the Gm reminds me of Hawk Harrelson. He was horrible as a GM he traded Harold Baines for a bunch of nobody’s . Fans idfntifybrr were players as well as winning/ the Sox are horrible at both

Vardis

lousy manager. Bats the catcher ninth, never throws a pitchout, lifts his starter too soon, can’t figuure out his bullpen..
…Wasted the money on Clevinger, got rid of Eloy’s salary. eat grifols contract

I believe that if Kenny Williams was still here, quality baseball would be being played by the White Sox. We wouldn’t be watching an inexperienced GM giving away good players for prospects.

Are you kidding? KW was the reason that the Sox were always at the average stage his entire career. The Sox just got lucky in 2005.
