Several White Sox players could be on the move ahead of the August 1st trade deadline, and some might be open to the idea.
According to a Sunday report by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, several veteran players in the Chicago White Sox organization have privately expressed that they would welcome a trade. None of these players have formally asked the White Sox front office to trade them, however.
While Nightengale’s report didn’t name specific players, it piggyback’s a recent update by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal that stated the White Sox are currently only willing to part with players who will be rentals for other teams. That would mean any of the following could be donning a new uniform come August:
- Lucas Giolito (RHP)
- Mike Clevinger (RHP)
- Yasmani Grandal (C)
- Elvis Andrus (INF)
- Reynaldo Lopez (RHP)
- Keynan Middleton (RHP)
The White Sox also have players who are technically free agents after this season but can be brought back on team options. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn has an $18M club option for 2024, and RHP Joe Kelly has a $9.5M club option for next season. All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson also has a club-friendly $14M team option for 2024. Kelly and Anderson have been occasionally rumored to be trade candidates for the South Siders, but that would seem to be more unlikely to happen if the organization is only trading away players deemed to be a “rental,” as The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal
“It’s just one of those things, I understand the business,” Anderson said recently on an episode of The Pivot Podcast. “If they want to keep me, then cool. If they don’t, then cool either way. Yeah, the numbers are different when it comes to shortstop. I think everybody knows. My time is coming. I’m going to be patient and just continue to keep working.”
We will continue to monitor the trade situation over the coming months as plenty of additional rumors are almost a guarantee. Follow us on social media @SoxOn35th for all of the latest updates!

They should trade Hahn, Kenny and Reinsdorf for a bag of batting practice balls. Reinsdorf needs to sell this team and end our agony.
“All-star shortstop TIm Anderson”? That ship has sailed.
Tim Anderson: “My time is coming.” No, Tim, alas, it has come and gone.
