Report: White Sox acquire Luis Patiño from Rays

by Jordan Lazowski

For the first time this deadline, the White Sox have actively acquired a player, rather than trading him away.

According to James Fegan, the White Sox have acquired Luis Patiño from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash considerations. the club has not yet confirmed the move.

Patiño, 23, will likely find himself throwing a lot of innings down the stretch for the White Sox, who have traded five pitchers so far at this deadline. A former highly-rated top prospect who ranked as highly as #18 in baseball (per Baseball America) prior to 2020, Patiño has taken a step back over the past few seasons since being part of the return in the Blake Snell trade to San Diego. In 45 minor league innings this season, Patiño has a 6.75 ERA and was also interestingly moved to the bullpen. It is not clear if the White Sox would continue this trend, especially considering that as recently as 2021, Patiño had seen legitimate success as a starter while batting some injury troubles.

We will provide more information as this move becomes official and the White Sox give more details on the future of Luis Patiño with the club. Until then, it’s likely safe to assume Patiño will spend some time with the major league club.

Trading Burger is the last straw, after 80 years. Done.

Jake

White sox trade away Burger instead they should fire Williams and Hahn. Burger was one of the true baseball player the sox had. It goes back to something else, look at coming out of spring training Burger was sent down. Burger did everything asked of him unlike Moncada, Robert, Anderson who act like they could care less most of the time they are primadonas. Katz and Grifal need to go also.
