Chris Getz said he wanted to find a right fielder. It appears he has one.
The White Sox have reportedly agreed to a major-league deal with outfielder Mike Tauchman, as first reported by MLB.com’s Scott Merkin. Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reports that Tauchman is set to make $1.95 million with an extra $1 million in incentives built in and a $250,000 relocation bonus if he’s traded.
Tauchman, 33, has spent time in the big leagues with the Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, and mostly recently, two seasons with the crosstown Chicago Cubs. During his 2024 campaign in 109 games, Tauchman hit .248/.357/.366 with seven home runs, a 13.4% walk rate, and a 111 wRC+. He’s been about an average defender at all three positions in the outfield the past two seasons on the north side, posting -1 Outs Above Average (OAA) in both right and center field last season and +1 OAA in left field. He posted 2.8 fWAR across his two seasons with the Cubs.

Tauchman is originally from Palatine Illinois and attended William Fremd High School. He was drafted in the 10th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. He has never posted a walk rate below 10% in his career, and as a left-handed hitter, he adds more balance to a White Sox lineup that will be looking to improve off of the worst season in major league history. Players like Tauchman don’t necessarily move the needle, but his skill set at least projects for a higher floor at an outfield position (RF) that has long been a hole for the White Sox.
More information will come as details about the contract length and salary become available.
