The White Sox really haven’t had any luck with the injury bug all season. Recently, it even took hold of their longtime head of groundskeeping, Roger Bossard.
According to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune, Roger Bossard will undergo hernia surgery that will cause him to miss most of the remainder of the regular season. He had been hoping that the surgery could be postponed until the offseason, however, it will take place during the White Sox’ road trip to Seattle and Oakland this upcoming week.
According to Sullivan, Bossard has only missed seven home games in his 56 seasons as the head of groundskeeping for the team. Bossard has been the head groundskeeper since 1983, when he took over for his father, Gene Bossard. His son, Brandon Bossard, currently plays within the White Sox organization, slashing .165/.308/289 across 118 plate appearances in rookie ball, low-A, and high-A in 2022.
The Sodfather will work the rest of the homestand and will be able to oversee the work being done during the final 11 games of the season. He also plans to return for his 57th season in 2023.
