The White Sox made a few roster moves ahead of tonight’s series opener vs. Texas.
- Lance Lynn has been placed on the Bereavement List
- Romy Gonzalez has been placed on the 10-Day IL with right shoulder inflammation
- Nick Padilla has been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte
- Jose Rodriguez has been recalled from Double-A Birmingham
Padilla has been up and down with the club this season but has pitched just two innings all season, giving up two runs. The 26-year-old has thrown just 3.2 innings in his major league career, so don’t expect to see too much of him while Lance Lynn is on the bereavement list.
Gonzalez, 26, hasn’t had the season he or the White Sox has wanted up to this point. In 97 plate appearances this season, he is hitting just .194/.208/.376 with three home runs and 14 runs driven in. He and Elvis Andrus had been battling for playing time, and with Tim Anderson’s ongoing injuries/poor performance, it appears that Andrus, Anderson, and the recently recalled Zach Remillard will be fighting for the majority of playing time.
Rodriguez, on the other hand, will be joining the club in the wake of Gonzalez’s absence. The 22-year-old infielder has a career slash of .284/.327/.447 with 77 doubles, 17 triples, 45 homers, 198 RBI, and 102 stolen bases over five minor-league seasons with the organization. Though his offensive numbers are slightly down on the year, the team’s sixth overall prospect has been red-hot over his last 10 games, hitting .333/.378/.571 with two homers and nine driven in. It’s not clear yet how often we should expect Rodriguez to play.
The White Sox have not yet provided a timetable for Gonzalez’s return.
