Royals 14, White Sox 5: Rough outing for Cease in loss

by Jordan Lazowski

Well, you can’t win all of them – and if you’re going to have some bad outings, you’d rather them come in the Spring.

The White Sox fell to the Royals tonight by a score of 14-5. 11 of those runs came off of Dylan Cease, who was unable to get three outs in his two innings of work. In fact, the 11 runs he gave up this evening were more than he gave up in June and July combined. The rest of the staff fared a bit better, with Franklin German, Bryan Shaw, and Jake Diekman among those who threw scoreless innings in their work.

The offense tried to make a late surge against the Royals’ bullpen, scoring four runs in the seventh inning courtesy of RBI singles by Carlos Perez and Jake Marisnick, and RBI groundouts from Lenyn Sosa and Adam Haseley. However, it wasn’t enough to make up for the early hole, not was it a strong night for the White Sox starting lineup, who could manage only one hit in three innings against Royals’ starter Brad Keller.

With the loss, the White Sox fall to 6-5 in the Spring.
