Another day, another one-run loss for the 2024 White Sox.
With the pitching staff limiting the Royals to two runs, the offense couldn’t get things going and only scored one run, courtesy of a Gavin Sheets homer in the second inning.
Erick Fedde looked solid, but his pitch count was getting a bit high, exiting at 91 pitches after only 5.0 innings. Seeing him allow only one earned run and two walks was a bright spot, but running some high counts early in his outing kept him from extending further.
Luis Robert Jr. smacked a double in the top of the ninth inning, signifying the start of a potential rally, but pulled up lame after rounding first base. He exited the game with a hip flexor injury.
That, along with John Brebbia exiting the game due to “right calf soreness”, on top of Eloy Jimenez’s IL stint, shrouds the White Sox with the injury bug a mere week into the season.
W: Chris Stratton (1-0) L: Michael Kopech (0-1), S: James McArthur (1)

Pitching Recap:
Notable Performances
Erick Fedde: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Fedde’s second start for the White Sox was another solid outing. While his strikeout numbers were on the lower side and his pitch count was getting high quickly, Fedde’s stuff was still effective, mitigating damage and only allowing one earned run.
Gavin Sheets: 1-for-3, HR, RBI
Knocking his first home run of the season, Sheets provided the lone offensive contribution of the day and continued a strong streak of appearances at the plate over the last few games.
Steven Wilson: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
After entering the game quickly after John Brebbia’s calf issue flared up, Wilson executed his role perfectly by retiring four consecutive batters in a row. He only threw 13 pitches in his outing but threw 10 for strikes and generated four whiffs, staying very efficient.
