To end the first full season of our weekly podcast, Duke Coughlin, Jordan Lazowski, and Nik Gaur travel back in time to November 2020 – the crucial juncture of this failed rebuild. In doing so, they are given the chance to have a do-over and try to get the White Sox in a better position than they are right now.
Which players would they sign – or not sign? What about some of the managerial decisions? What would their roster-building philosophy be? And, at the end of the day, could they have made things better?

Clearly, things could have been done that would have yielded better results! I know people will say that that is hindsight, but this is not the case here! The Tony La Russa hire raised all kinds of red flags, especially among baseball insiders! Reinsdorf going over his front office to hire someone who had just incurred a second drunk driving arrest clearly sent the wrong message! Those misgivings played out in practice! If it hadn’t been for health issues, it is a safe bet that La Russa would still be managing the White Sox, no matter how bad things had gotten! Never doing anything to add depth to the roster despite holes and weaknesses in the roster and despite nonstop injury problems was another failure! Is it any wonder that the team thoroughly hit rock bottom this past year?
