Not much to report from Spring Training today – especially when some of the best news from the day came from Chicago, rather than Arizona:
Yes, that’s right: fans will be in the stands for Opening Day! Approximately 8,000 fans will be allowed on Opening Day, and that number is expected to be comprised mostly of season ticket holders. The White Sox have said they will provide more details in the coming days and weeks.
In Arizona, not so great news. The White Sox ran out a bunch of minor league depth against the World Series Champions, and it went about as expected.
W: Julio Urias (1-0) L: Mike Wright (0-2)
Position Players
The White Sox mustered just three hits this afternoon, all after the fifth inning. Julio Urias was excellent this afternoon, throwing three perfect innings for the Dodgers.
The White Sox lineup was incredibly similar to the anticipated Opening Day lineup. Hopefully, the results aren’t the same.
Pitchers
On the mound, Mike Wright was unable to finish the first inning, while Jose Ruiz and Zack Burdi gave up multiple runs. However, Ryan Burr, Codi Heuer, Tayron Guerrero, and Connor Sadzeck turned in scoreless outings, and Kyle Kubat finished the first inning nicely for Wright.
On defense, there were some highs and lows… You can guess which highlight below is which.
Next Game
Tuesday vs. Padres: Blake Snell (SDP) vs. Lance Lynn (CHW), 2:05 PM CT
Much like the past two games, this game will be televised on MLB TV and whitesox.com. Lance Lynn, Michael Kopech, Garrett Crochet, and Liam Hendriks are all scheduled to pitch tomorrow. If you can, it’s worth tuning in.

Urias & Price are very good pitchers, but according to ESPN, the only times a White Sox player did NOT swing at the first pitch were a four pitch walk to Lucroy to lead off the sixth and three separate 3 pitch strikeouts. This is why Tony LaRussa was not the right choice. This team needed someone who stresses taking some pitches and working the count once in a while. It’s one spring training game, but their inability to take pitches will be their downfall and a guy like LaRussa is too old school to preach patience.
