With the start of the White Sox regular season postponed due to coronavirus concerns, NBC Sports Chicago has decided to re-air 70 victories from the 2005 season from now until June. Here at Sox On 35th, we will also be following along and recapping those games for you in our Tale of the Tape series.
Date of Game: May 24, 2005
This one was a classic pitchers’ duel, that went deep into the LA night. With a total of just nine hits between the two clubs, Mark Buehrle and Bartolo Colon went neck and neck. However, once all was said and done, the White Sox came out on top in the eleventh inning to earn the win and improve to 32-14.
W: Damaso Marte (3-3) | L: Esteban Yan (0-1)
The Good
- Joe Crede (3B): 2-for-4, run
- Carl Everett (DH): 1-for-4, HR (6), RBI, run
- Mark Buehrle (P): 9 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 6 K, 2 BB
- 120 Pitches: 83 strikes, 37 balls
The Bad
- Offense couldn’t back up Buehrle: Only three hits and one run through 9 innings
- Jermaine Dye (RF): 0-for-4, K
- Aaron Rowand (CF): 0-for-5
Moment of the Game
This one is tie. Although Tadahito Iguchi’s RBI base hit was what eventually allowed the Sox to win the game, Buehrle working through the 9th inning jam, having thrown over 115 pitches already, cannot go unnoticed. Buehrle had an ERA under three at this time and his craftiness was on full display in the late innings.
