Tale of the Tape ’05 Edition: White Sox 5, Blue Jays 3

With the start of the White Sox regular season postponed due to coronavirus concerns, NBC Sports Chicago has decided to re-air 70 victories from the 2005 season from now until June. Here at Sox On 35th, we will also be following along and recapping those games for you in our Tale of the Tape series.

Date of Game: May 6, 2005

The White Sox got some late-inning sparks out of the offense to come from behind and take one in Toronto, 5-3. Orlando Hernandez earned the win, continuing a solid start to the year as the team’s record improves to 22-7.

Moment of the Game

A.J. Pierzynski took an 0-2 pitch to right field for a single to break the 3-3 tie in the 8th. Carl Everett and Paul Konerko came around to score, giving the Sox a 5-3 lead.

Just about everyone in the Sox batting order got in on the action as eight batters contributed with at least one base hit. The only batter kept hitless was DH Carl Everett, but he reached base on a walk, eventually coming around to score. In addition, all nine batters reached base.

With the win, the Sox improved to 22-7, climbing to 15 games over .500.
