Lucas Giolito wasn’t incredibly sharp today, but he found a way to get through seven solid innings of two-run baseball. However, Aaron Bummer surrendered a two-run homer to Brian Goodwin in the eighth inning, and Alex Colome surrender the go-ahead homer in the ninth. The White Sox have lost four of five to the Angels this season. These are the losses that frustrate me the most.

Stats On 35th: Let’s Break this one down By the Numbers
Tonight’s Numbers:
22.2/-17.0, 2, 216, 90.8, 0.150
22.2/-17.0
Tonight’s MVP and LVP, in terms of Win Probability Added (WPA) are Lucas Giolito (22.2%) and Welington Castillo (-17.0%). Neither of these are surprises, as Lucas threw the ball well once again while Castillo went 0-for-4 in an incredibly unproductive night.
2
The White Sox were leading 4-2 after seven innings. This was just their second loss of the season when they were leading after seven (previously 49-1).
216
With six additional strikeouts tonight, Lucas Giolito has now reordered 216 strikeouts this season. The only White Sox right-handed pitcher with more strikeouts in a season was Ed Walsh. Giolito has a long way to go to catch Walsh though, as Walsh struck out 269 batters in 1908, 258 in 1910, 255 in 1911, and 254 in 1912. However, Walsh did throw close to 400 innings in each of those seasons!
90.8
With two outs in the eighth inning, Baseball Savant gave the White Sox a 90.8% chance to win the ballgame. What transpired after this game was certainly a frustrating turn of events.
0.150
An incredible odd but true fact from tonight: Tim Anderson’s home run had an expected batting average (xBA) of just 0.150. Gotta love the juiced balls.
