Tale of the Tape: Rangers 3, White Sox 8

by Jordan Lazowski

Dylan Cease brought his A+ stuff tonight, going six innings while giving up just three runs – all on a home run in the first inning. This was arguably his best performance yet, and with Yoan Moncada the rest of the top of the lineup pacing the offense, the White Sox improved to 59-69 on the season.

W: Dylan Cease (3-6) L: Lance Lynn (14-9)

The Good

Yoan Moncada: 2-for-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI

*Eight of nine starters had at least one hit

Dylan Cease: 6 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 9 K, 13 Swinging Strikes

The Bad

James McCann: 0-for-4, 2 K

Moment of the Game

The moment of this game actually came off the bat of the Rangers. In the top of the first, Willie Calhoun launched a three-run homer that looked to derail Cease’s start early. Instead, Dylan called for a “cease”fire from the Rangers’ offense, shutting them down for five scoreless innings and retiring 11 straight batters at one point.

Stats On 35th: Let’s Break this one down By the Numbers

Today’s Numbers:

12.5/-7.3, 999, 9, 25, 63

12.5/-7.3

Friday’s MVP and LVP, in terms of Win Probability Added (WPA) are Adam Engel (12.5%) and James McCann (-7.3). Engel’s two-run double came in an incredibly crucial situation with the White Sox already down 3-0 in the game. James McCann, on the other hand, was 0-for-4 and was the only starter without a hit.

999

With a 1-for-4 showing on Friday, Jose Abreu collected his 999th career hit in the majors. With his 1,000th sometime soon, he will become the 29th White Sox player to collect 1,000 career hits.

9

Dylan Cease said he had the best start of his career tonight, and I agree with him. With his nine strikeouts, Cease already set his career high at a higher mark than Ross Detwiler, who set his career high in strikeouts at eight on Thursday night.

25

Injury Watch: Prospect Edition. We have now reached 25 days without seeing Eloy Jimenez, Tim Anderson, and Yoan Moncada in the same lineup. With Moncada and Anderson swinging the bat incredibly well, it will be nice to see what Jimenez can bring to this trio once he is back and healthy.

63

With his 63rd RBI tonight, Yoan Moncada already surpassed his RBI total from last season (61). What a nice, friendly reminder that development isn’t linear.
