Tale of the Tape: White Sox 2, Rangers 0

by Jordan Lazowski

Reynaldo Lopez had his good stuff today, throwing five no-hit innings before leaving with dehydration/flu-like symptoms. Aaron Bummer worked around a jam in the sixth, and the rest of the bullpen was dominant. All in all, the White Sox pitching staff allowed just one hit, and Jose Abreu drove in both runs for the Sox in a 2-0 victory. The White Sox took three of four games in this series.

W: Reynaldo Lopez (8-11) L: Brock Burke (0-1) S: Alex Colome(25)

The Good

Reynaldo Lopez: 5 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 15 Swinging Strikes

The Bullpen: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Jose Abreu: 1-for-3, 2 RBI

Adam Engel: 2-for-4, 2B

Tim Anderson: 0-for-4, K – Ends his 11-game hitting streak

Moment of the Game

Jose Abreu drove in both runs today, getting his 100th RBI in the process. Here’s the one that got the Sox the much-needed insurance run.

Stats on 35th: Let’s Break this one down By the Numbers

Today’s Numbers:

28.5/-20.4, 75, 5, 81, 2

28.5/-20.4

Today’s MVP and LVP, in terms of Win Probability Added (WPA) are Reynaldo Lopez (28.5%) and Eloy Jimenez (-20.4%). There’s no surprises here, as Reynaldo Lopez was dominant, while Eloy Jimenez was 0-for-4 with 3 K’s. Jimenez has really struggled since coming back, going 1-for-8 with 5 K’s.

75

Reynaldo Lopez became one of a number today. According to Medical Daily, 75% of Americans do not receive the daily prescribed amount of water per day, meaning they are considered dehydrated. This unfortunately became the case for Lopez today, who had to leave his no-hit bid up to the bullpen due to dehydration/flu-like symptoms.

5

With 2 RBIs today, Jose Abreu reached the 100 RBI mark for the fifth time in six seasons with the White Sox. This is the 3rd-most 100 RBI seasons in White Sox history, as he trails just Paul Konerko (5) and Frank Thomas (10). He is likely to top his career high of 107 RBIs by the end of this up-and-down season.

81

Reynaldo Lopez usually throws fastballs for 58% of his pitches in any given start. However, his fastball usage was way up today, as he threw fastballs on 65 of his 80 pitches (81%). It was working well today, though, as he averaged 96 mph and touched 99 mph on his way to generating 14 swinging strikes on his fastball.

2

The White Sox saw two double digit hitting streaks come to an end today. Tim Anderson lost his 11-game hitting streak, while Yolmer Sanchez lost possibly the quietest 12-game hitting streak. This isn’t all that surprising in a game with a combined six hits.
