Tale of the Tape: White Sox 6, Rangers 1

by Joe Binder

Was this the Ross Detwiler Game? Heck yeah it was. The veteran threw six innings of three-hit baseball. To make things even better, Yoan Moncada made his presence immediately felt in the starting lineup with a multi-hit performance to help put the Sox over the top 6-1.

Moment of the Game

Today’s moment of the game came in the bottom of the third when the Sox put up a BIG crooked number on the scoreboard. Tim Anderson grounded an RBI-single to right to get the party started. Then, Yoan Moncada followed with his 21st home run of the season and it was a sweet sight to see. Finally, James McCann put the cherry on top with a BOMB to left field to extend the lead to 5-0 in the Good Guys’ favor.

Stats On 35th: Let’s Break this One Down by the Numbers

Today’s Numbers:

20.5, 24, 8, 2.91, 50

20.5

With 20.5 percentage points added, today’s MVP in terms of Win Probability Added (WPA) is the man, Ross Detwiler. Yoan Moncada immediately followed with 12.3 points and James McCann had 9.7 himself. Both YoYo and the McCannon homered and doubled tonight.

24

It seems like it’s been forever since we’ve seen Eloy Jimenez, Yoan Moncada, and Tim Anderson in the same lineup. Indeed, it has been awhile – 24 days to be exact. We almost had that streak broken tonight, but Eloy was scratched prior to the game with Hopefully this streak comes to an end during this weekend series.

8

Not only was Big Boss Ross impressive, he also set a new career-high in strikeouts with eight on the evening. Just look at his final line above because it is a beauty. Have yourself a night, Ross Detwiler!

2.91

The White Sox starting pitching has been dominant as of late. Since August 7th, Don Cooper’s squad boasts an ERA of just 2.91, which is the best mark in the American League during that span. With starts like the one Detwiler had tonight and Giolito’s yesterday, it’s easy to see how this is possible.

50

James McCann’s little second half slump is over because he has been scorching the ball lately. Tonight, he set a new personal best with his 50th RBI of the season. When looking at his past few days, the All-Star has homered in three of his last eight games. He’s also a Rangers killer, batting .306 with four doubles, three homers, and 10 RBI in his last 17 games against them.
