Tale of the Tape: White Sox 8, Angels 2

by Jordan Lazowski

Here at Sox On 35th, we will be continuing our game recaps this offseason with a throwback to the 2005 Playoffs. Each day that, 14 years ago, the White Sox had a playoff game, we will recap it for you! Make sure to vote for Player of the Game every game, so that we can determine who you, the fans, thought were the MVPs of the 2005 World Champion Chicago White Sox! Now, let’s take this journey back to October 15, 2005…

The dominance continues. Following the complete game efforts of Mark Buehrle and Jon Garland, Freddy Garcia refused to be left out, as he threw a complete game in his ALCS start, giving up just two runs in his outing. With the 8-2 victory, the White Sox moved just one win away from their first World Series berth since 1959.

Stats On 35th: Let’s Break this one down By the Numbers

Today’s Numbers

16.7, 5, 3, 2, 5(again!)

16.7

Today’s MVP, in terms of Win Probability Added (WPA) is – no surprise – Freddy Garcia (16.7%). Garcia, like Buehrle and Garland before him, was dominant, and helped put the White Sox squarely in position to clinch tomorrow night.

5

For the second consecutive game, Paul Konerko got his SP an early lead with a first inning home run. With the home run today, Konerko now has five first inning RBIs in the ALCS.

3

After today, the White Sox currently have three players who have over a 1.000 OPS in the postseason. Paul Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski, and Scott Podsednik have helped pace this offense to some offensive outbursts this postseason.

2

With his two stolen bases in Game 4, Scott Podsednik became the first White Sox player since Jose Valentin in 2000 to steal two or more bases in a postseason game. He is just the fifth White Sox player in postseason history to do this.

5

Six wins down. Five to go. The excitement continues to build.

The Game Ahead: Party Like it’s 1959?
