Stats On 35th – Let’s Break this one down By the Numbers

Today’s Numbers:

24.9/-8.2, 1.094, 0.358, 0.204, 14

24.6/-8.6

Today’s MVP and LVP, in terms of Win Probability Added (WPA), are Ivan Nova (24.9) and Eloy Jimenez (-8.2). Ivan Nova was excellent today, adding 24.9 percentage points to the Sox’ win probability by throwing. Eloy Jimenez, on the other hand, had a tough time helping his team’s chances. He was 1-for-5 with a couple strikeout, costing his team 8.2 percentage points towards their win probability. However, he did drive in a run in the eighth.

1.094

Ryan Cordell loves playing against the 2019 Detroit Tigers. Coming into today’s contest, the young outfielder was hitting .355/.417/.677, good for a 1.094 OPS. Four of his now six home runs on the season have come against Detroit.

0.358

Tim Anderson has picked up right where he left off before his injury. After his 4-for-4 afternoon, Anderson is 14-for-39 (0.358) since returning from the IL on July 30. Hopefully Anderson’s breakout season can continue through the season’s next two months.

0.204

On the other hand, Eloy Jimenez has struggled since returning from his injury. The young slugger is just 10-for-49 (0.204) with one home run since returning on July 28. It always seems to take Jimenez some time to adjust after his injury, so look for a turn-around soon for Eloy.

14

Much like Ryan Cordell, James McCann loves hitting against the Detroit Tigers. McCann continues to torture his former team with a 3-for-5, 3 RBI showing today. In just nine games on the season, McCann has 14 hits against his former squad, and has even stolen one of his three bases this season against them.
