Tim Anderson eyes All-Star Game with second phase of voting underway

by Joe Binder

The clock is ticking to get Tim Anderson into the 2022 MLB All-Star Game as the American League’s starting shortstop.

The second phase of voting that encompasses the entire league officially got underway earlier this morning. It will run for the next three days until 12:59 p.m. CT on Friday, July 8, 2022.

Anderson, 29, is in prime position to land his first-ever starting nod after making his debut in the Midsummer Classic as a reserve in 2021. On the season, he’s batting .326 (1st) with a .364 OBP (2nd), .440 SLG (7th), 133 wRC+ (5th), and 2.2 WAR (8th). His rankings are among all qualifying with 230 plate appearances, an eye-popping difference compared to Bichette who trails in all categories.

Despite leading in nearly every statistic, Anderson will likely have a very difficult time when it comes to actually earning the nod. In the first phase of voting, Bichette led the way with a total of 1,084,794 votes compared to TA’s 844,921 submissions. The 200,000+ vote difference goes to show that White Sox fans will need to be active and do their part to send the shortstop to Los Angeles.

During this wave of voting, fans may select players as set forth in the official ballot. High votes received and determined valid during the second phase will decide each league’s starting position players and, if remaining, the one designated hitter spot for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard.

Take note that during the second phase of voting, there is a limit of one (1) ballot submission per single, valid email address during any twenty-four (24) hour period (with that twenty-four (24) hour period to begin tolling at the time of such fan’s ballot submission; following the expiration of the initial twenty-four (24) period, the next twenty-four (24) hour period begins tolling at the time of such fan’s next ballot submission).
