Edit: The White Sox have announced that Anderson suffered a strained right groin.
The hits just keep on coming for the White Sox, and they can’t seem to catch a break this season.
With one out in the fifth inning of Sunday’s game against the Cubs, Tim Anderson ranged to his left to field a ground ball off the bat of P.J. Higgins. While he did complete the play, it was clear immediately after that Anderson had injured himself on the play.
Based on his reaction and where he was pointing, all signs point to a groin injury for Anderson. He would need some help getting off the field, and according to beat reporters, he would put a bit more weight on his leg once he was in the dugout.
In 45 games this season, Anderson has been one of the few bright spots in the White Sox lineup. Before leaving today’s game, Anderson has hit .356/.393/.503 on the season. He singled and stole a base earlier in the game today.
Danny Mendick would replace Anderson following the injury, though it’s unclear what the White Sox will plan to do in the case of a longer term injury for Anderson. The immediate reaction would likely be to add Yolbert Sanchez to the team, once Dallas Keuchel is officially released and a 40-man roster spot opens up for him.
As this is a developing story, we will keep you updated as more information becomes available on Anderson’s condition.
