Tim Anderson Placed on 10-Day IL, Luis Robert Returns

by Jordan Lazowski

The White Sox have avoided the worst with Tim Anderson – some might even go so far as to say the team got good news today.

The White Sox placed Anderson on the 10-day injured list with a strained right groin. Multiple reports indicate the injury has been ruled a Grade 1 strain, meaning the All-Star shortstop will avoid significant time off could return in as little as three weeks.

Anderson, as you will recall, with one out in the fifth inning on Sunday, ranged to his left to field a ground ball off the bat of P.J. Higgins. While he did complete the play, it was clear immediately after that Anderson had injured himself on the play.

In 45 games this season, Anderson has been one of the few bright spots in the White Sox lineup. Before leaving Sunday’s game, Anderson has hit .356/.393/.503 on the season. He singled and stole a base earlier in the game as well.

With this being a shorter term injury as evidenced by the 10-Day IL placement, look for Danny Mendick and Leury Garcia to likely handle the bulk of the time at SS in Anderson’s absence. Yolbert Sanchez remains an option for the club, however, it appears there is less of a chance he will make an appearance as a result of this injury.

In a corresponding move, the White Sox also welcomed back Luis Robert into the fold after he was placed on the COVID-19 injured list earlier last week. He is not in tonight’s starting lineup, however, for the series opener in Toronto.

Breathe a sigh of relief, Sox fans – the season isn’t over yet.
