With the injury to Yasmani Grandal apparently rather significant, the White Sox will be making a roster move to bring up their hot-hitting catcher.
After tonight’s game against the Guardians, Tony La Russa announced that Carlos Perez will be called up from AAA Charlotte to take Yasmani Grandal’s roster spot. Grandal was on crutches in the locker room, according to James Fegan, and he is still set to undergo further evaluation.
Perez, 25, has had an excellent season so far, hitting .259/.317/.448 with 17 home runs, leading many to believe he might be the starting catcher of the future for the White Sox. He has been touted as a solid receiver behind the plate as well, and he has thrown out 28% of runners this season down in Charlotte.
Perez is not yet on the 40-man roster, so it is unclear what roster move the White Sox will make to bring him onto the roster. We will let you know as more information becomes available.
