Trade Deadline Update: Lynn, Cease, Bummer, Kelly

by Jordan Lazowski

Today felt like the first day all week where the Hot Stove really started to get going beyond the typical rumors we have been hearing about the White Sox and the fact that they will be selling this year. From Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito all the way to Aaron Bummer, quite a few names were discussed on social media today as the Monday deadline looms closer.

Here’s a recap of anything you may have missed throughout the day today!

Lynn drawing strong interest from Rays, but Dodgers also in mix

Based on reports, it appears Lance Lynn might end up in one of two places: Tampa Bay or Los Angeles.

It was a day of conflicting reports – or, rather, teams negotiating through the media – with Lynn, who obviously ended the day with the White Sox to this point. Bob Nightengale’s report that a deal was getting serious were first, followed by a Rays’ beat reporter who claimed the interest was real, but a deal was far from done. Nightengale also mentioned that while the deal with the Rays might be closer, the Dodgers were still in the hunt for both Lynn and fellow starter Lucas Giolito.

Let the negotiations via the media continue into tomorrow.

Report: Aaron Bummer considered “fascinating” trade candidate

Could Aaron Bummer, despite a rough season, be considered a trade candidate? Jon Morosi thinks so, mentioning his name this morning among a flurry of news. It doesn’t appear the White Sox plan to trade him currently, though things could certainly change for the right price.

Cease very unlikely to be traded, Sox uninterested in massive rebuild

In perhaps the least shocking information of the day, the White Sox have no plans to come out on the other side of this Trade Deadline in full rebuild mode. As a result, it doesn’t appear Dylan Cease will be going anywhere anytime soon, especially with his two years of control remaining.

How the White Sox plan to contend next year, however? That’s still unclear.

Joe Kelly drawing interest from Dodgers

Could the White Sox be looking to package a reliever and a starter over to Los Angeles? According to Fansided’s Robert Murray, it’s certainly a possibility. Major league sources confirmed to Murray that Kelly is drawing interest from multiple teams, including the Dodgers.
