April 22: White Sox 12, Orioles 2
Tale of the tape: While the White Sox have had some special starts from some of their young guys – Tim Anderson & Yoan Moncada – it’s been one of their long time veterans Jose Abreu that hadn’t been able to get going. That was no longer the case on this night. Abreu went 3-6, one of which was a solo shot, and knocked in 5 runs in the process.
April 23rd: White Sox 1, Orioles 9.
Tale of the tape: Ivan Nova has really struggled through the first part of the season, and it was no different here.
Nova, now 0-3 on the season gave up nine runs over four innings. He now has an 8.42 ERA over five starts and has given up 11 hits in each of his last two outings.
“I missed location with all my pitches tonight,” he said. “I threw the ball out over the plate a lot and I got hit.”
April 24th: White Sox 3, Orioles 4.
Tale of the tape: Ervin Santana tried to get back on track, but just hasn’t had his best stuff this season. He surrendered all four runs in just 4 2/3 innings, putting the White Sox in an early hole. They tried to put together a rally in the ninth, when Abreu doubled in a run, cutting the deficit to one. After a wild pitch moved Abreu to third, Moncada hit a hard grounder that looked to possibly tie the game, but Orioles shortstop Ritchie Martin made the play, and wrapped up the series victory for the O’s.
Quick Note: Ervin Santana was designated for assignment, and Eloy Jimenez was reinstated from bereavement.
April 26th: Tigers 11, White Sox 12
Tale of the tape: What a ball game. We will start with where many of you left, when the White Sox trailed the Tigers 9-2 in the fifth. The Sox scored a total of 9 runs over the next three innings, topped off by this bizarre play right here….
The play would eventually be reviewed and overturned. Abreu was ruled out at first for running past Tim Anderson, but the runs for Anderson and Leury Garcia counted, putting the White Sox on top 11-10.
And while you may want to see it again, I just don’t care. While Abreu’s shot ended up not being a homer, we will always still have this. Here you go y’all!
Of course, you knew that crucial play review would come back to haunt the Sox. Instead of being up two runs, they were now up just one. The Tigers would go on to tie the game in the 8th.
Then, this….

April 28th: Tigers 1, White Sox 4
Tale of the tape: Reynaldo Lopez flat out hurled it, allowing only two hits and one run while striking out 14 batters. The White Sox went on to to strike out 20 Detroit Tigers batters, setting the major league record for a 9-inning game.
“He’s a young man who’s still maturing, who’s still learning and who’s still learning himself,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. “I think trust continues to be an issue that all of them continue to chip away at — trusting themselves, trusting their stuff.”
