White Sox 4, Twins 3: Cease, Bullpen shine in win

by Sox On 35th Contributors

The White Sox were able to start off their first series against their division rivals, the Minnesota Twins, on the right foot.

On the pitching side, Dylan Cease continued his case to not only be the best pitcher in the White Sox rotation but to be the best pitcher in the American League. He was not able to go deep in the game, only five innings, but struck out six, while only giving up one earned run. Cease was first relieved by Jimmy Lambert, who was followed by Kendall Graveman, Aaron Bummer, and then Reynaldo Lopez for the four-out save. Despite a less-than-stellar start, the bullpen was able to go four scoreless innings to help the White Sox secure the win.

On the hitting side, all of the White Sox offense came in the fourth inning. After Yasmani Grandal tied the game at 1-1 and drove in Andrew Benintendi, third baseman Hanser Alberto hit a three-run home run to then bring the game to 4-1. The Twins would score a run in the fourth inning and again in the fifth inning, but it wouldn’t be enough to overtake the Pale Hose.

With the win, the White Sox bring their record to 5-6 and sit 1.5 games behind the AL Central-leading Minnesota Twins.

W: Dylan Cease (2-0) | L: Kenta Maeda (0-2) | SV: Reynaldo Lopez (2)

Pitching Recap

Notable Performances

Dylan Cease (SP): 5.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 6 K, 2 BB, 0 HR

Dylan Cease continues to prove why he’s the Ace of the pitching rotation. Too many opposing runs crossed home plate thanks to some shaky defense behind Cease, but overall, the #CyCease train continues to roll.

Hanser Alberto (3B): 1-for-3, HR, 3 RBI

Hanser Alberto is unfortunately also notable as a part of the aforementioned “shaky defense;” however, he helped make up for it thanks to a three-run home run.
